Angel
  A supernatural being found in many religions. In Christianity, Judaism, Zoroastrianism and Islam, they typically act as messengers from God. Many people believe there are "guardian angels" whom look after people they're assigned to

Apparition
  an appearance to a human of a ghost, phantom, or other supernatural being such as God or Satan, or an appearance of a living person not physically present by supernatural or ostensibly supernatural means
Apocalypse-applied to the disclosure to certain privileged persons of something hidden from the mass of humankind. Today the term is often used to mean "end of the world", which may be a shorterning of the phrase apokalupsis eschaton which literally means "revelation at the end of the world

Astrology
  the scientific study of astronomical objects and phenomena, whereas astrology is concerned with the attempt to correlate these phenomena with earthly affairs

Banish(ing)
one or more rituals in Ceremonial magic intended to remove non-physical influences ranging from spirits to negative influences. It is used in most cases before and after a main ritual

Bigfoot
  lleged ape-like animal said to inhabit the remote forested areas of much of North America, with many of the sightings occuring in the Pacific northwest of the United States and British Columbia, Canada. Bigfoot is sometimes described as a large, bipedal hairy hominoid creature, and many believe that this animal, or its close relatives, may be found around the world under different regional names, such as the Yeti of Tibet and Nepal

Banshee
  female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld

Chupacabra
  a cryptid said to inhabit parts of the Americas. It is associated particularly with Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the United States, especially in the latter's Latin American communities. The name translates literally from the Spanish as "goat sucker". It comes from the creature's reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats

Crop Circles
  geometrical formations of flattened crops found in England and elsewhere. They have been found in wheat, barley, canola, rye, corn, linseed and soy. They have been labeled as signs or a language from aliens or other world beings

Cult(s)
  designating a cohesive group of people, sometimes a relatively small and recently founded religious movement, sometimes numbering in the hundreds of thousands) devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture or society considers to be far outside the mainstream, sometimes reaching the point of a taboo

Demon(s)
  supernatural being that has generally been described as a malevolent spirit, and in Christian terms is the opposite of an Angel. A demon is frequently depicted as a force that may be conjured and insecurely controlled
Druid-denotes the priestly class in ancient Celtic societies, which existed through much of Western Europe north of the Alps and in the British Isles until they were supplanted by Roman government and, later, Christianity

Electric Storm
  A thunderstorm. Rumored to also bring about certain strange activity and possible paranormal "hauntings"

Ectoplasm
  A substance or spiritual energy "exteriorized" by physical mediums

Embodiment
  an idea binds two worlds of substance and spirit (or culture, thought of as intentional objects and phenomena), contrary to a duality long posited by notables like Descartes

Empathics
  any fictional character that has a paranormal or psychic ability to sense the emotions of others

Evil
  the morally objectionable aspects of the behaviour and reasoning of human beings — those which are deliberately void of conscience, and show a wanton penchant for destruction. Evil is sometimes defined as the absence of a good which could and should be present; the absence of which is a void in what should be

Entity
  something that has a distinct, separate existence, though it need not be a material existence

  Electronic Voice Phenomenon

Exorcism
  the practice of evicting demons or other evil spiritual entities from a person or place of which they have possessed or taken control of

Extraterrestrials
   life that exists and originates outside the planet Earth, the only place in the universe currently known by humans to support life. Its existence is still hypothetical as there is currently little evidence to indicate that other planets can support life, and there is no evidence of extraterrestrial life that has been widely accepted by the scientific community.

  a powerful, unpleasant feeling of risk or danger, either real or imagined

Ghosts
  usually defined as the apparition of a deceased person, frequently similar in appearance to that person, and encountered in places he or she frequented, or in association with the person's former belongings. The word "ghost" may also refer to the spirit or soul of a deceased person, or to any spirit or demon

  a monster from ancient Arabian and Persian folklore that dwells in graveyards and other uninhabited places

Halloween
  observance also known as Hallowe'en, All-hallow-even, All Hallows' Eve, Hallow Eve, and All Saints' Eve. Also, it is sometimes noted as the celebration of the dead.

Haunting
  To inhabit, or visit frequently. This could also be an inhabitation of unwanted presenses such as ghosts.

  The place where devils live and where sinners are punished after death

  Evil spell or curse

Hypnosis
   trancelike state, artificially induced, in which a person has a heightened suggestibility, and in which suppressed memories may be experienced

  Repeated and persistent paranormal phenomena, generally centered around a particular location or person(s). Also known as a haunting (Adopted from TAPS)

Levitation
  the raising of something, such as a human body, using the power of the mind. Also, in hauntings, this can occur, human or not

Life
  The state that precedes death and follows birth or conception

Lucifer
  Also known as Satan or the Devil. A name of the Christian devil, referring to him before his fall into sin

Magic
  Supernatural occurrences or feats or an illusion performed to give the appearance of magic or the supernatural

Matrixing
  where the mind "plugs in" what it wants you to see. (ie:You see something because you want to see something)

Miracle
  a wonderful event occurring in the physical world which has no explanation and is therefore given supernatural meaning. Many religious beliefs are based on miracles

Necromancy
  a form of divination in which the practitioner seeks to summon "operative spirits" or "spirits of divination", for multiple reasons, from spiritual protection to wisdom. Also, a practice of communicating with the dead.

Nosferatu
  Movie depicted vampire from the 1922 silent film. This does not mean "undead" or "vampire" as thought. Many people believe it came from the Greeks meaning plague-carrier or the Romanian as the insufferable one.

O


Oracle
  a person or persons considered to be the source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion; an infallible authority, usually spiritual in nature. It can also be a prediction of the future, from deities, that is spoken through another object or life-form. In the ancient world many sites gained a reputation for the dispensing of oracular wisdom: they too became known as "oracles", as did the oracular utterances themselves, whose very name is derived from the Latin verb orare, to speak

Quija
  belief one can receive messages during a séance by the Ouija board (also called talking board, spirit board) and planchette. The fingers of the participants are placed on the planchette which then moves about a board covered with numbers, letters and symbols so as to spell out messages. Ouija is a trademark for a talking board currently sold by Parker Brothers. While the word is not a genericized trademark, it has become a trademark which is often used generically to refer to any talking board

Paranormal
  umbrella term used to describe a wide variety of reported anomalous phenomena. According to the Journal of Parapsychology, the term paranormal describes "any phenomenon that in one or more respects exceeds the limits of what is deemed physically possible according to current scientific assumptions."[1] For this reason, the scientific community often avoids research on the paranormal, believing that it may not conform to the standards required by the scientific method

Parapsychology
  scientific study of certain types of paranormal phenomena, or of phenomena which appear to be paranormal

Pentagram
  the shape of a five-pointed star drawn with five straight strokes. When the sign is upside-down, it is believed to be "of the devil"

Poltergiest
  German for "noisy ghost." term used to describe a spirit or ghost that manifests itself by moving and influencing inanimate objects.Reports of poltergeist activity typically feature heavily on raps, bumps thumps, knocks, footsteps, and bed-shaking, all without a discernible point of origin or physical reason for occurrence. Many accounts also detail objects being thrown about the room, furniture being moved, and even people being levitated

  having some degree of control over something else

Precognition
  form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person perceives information about future places or events before they happen (as distinct from merely predicting them based on deductive reasoning and current knowledge.)

Psychic
  from the Greek psychikos, meaning "of the soul, mental," which is in turn derived from the Greek word psyche (soul/mind)The term is often used interchangeably with medium, although psychics attribute abilities they may have to ESP or clairvoyance rather than to contact with spirits

Psychokinesis
  the proposed paranormal ability of the mind to influence matter or energy without the use of any currently known type of physical means. For instance, psychokinesis might be used to distort or move an object,or to influence a random number generator

Reincarnation
  literally "to be made flesh again", is a doctrine or mystical belief that some essential part of a living being (in some variations only human beings) survives death to be reborn in a new body. This essential part is often referred to as the Spirit or Soul, the 'Higher or True Self', 'Divine Spark', 'I' or the 'Ego' (not to be confused with the ego as defined by psychology). According to such beliefs, a new personality is developed during each life in the physical world, but some part of the being remains constantly present throughout these successive lives as well

Residual haunting
  Thought by some to be a replayed haunting in which no intelligent ghost, spirit, or other entity is directly involved. Much like a video tape, residual hauntings are playbacks of auditory, visual, olfactory, and other sensory phenomenon which are attributed to a traumatic event, life-altering event, or a common event of a person or place, like an echo of past events. Residual hauntings often center on moments of intense emotion: someone's beheading, a great battle, a murder, or even a celebration. Paranormal researchers theorize that residual hauntings are the result of discharged personal energy of a person or group of people being imprinted on the surrounding environment, most commonly at or just after death

Satan
  from the Hebrew word for "accuser." Religious belief systems other than Judaism relate this term to a demon, a rebellious fallen angel, devil, minor god and idolatry, or as an allegory for evil. In the New Testament, Satan is a name that is thought to refer to a supernatural entity who appears in several passages and possesses demonic god-like qualities. It is found in passages alongside Diabolos or devil more than thirty times to refer to the same person or thing as Satan

Séance
  on its most basic level, an attempt to communicate with the dead via a protocol or ritual, generally done in a small group setting. The séance, or sitting, is led by a person known as a medium who will usually go into a trance that theoretically allows the dead to communicate through him or her

Spirit
  A ghost and/or a spiritual being, or non-corporeal entity found in animism, similar to a deity

Stigmata
bodily marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus. The term originates from the line at the end of Saint Paul's Letter to the Galatians where he says, "I bear on my body the marks of Jesus", with "marks" in the Latin Vulgate rendered as "stigmata". An individual bearing stigmata is referred to as a stigmatic

Vampire
  are mythological or folkloric creatures believed to be the re-animated corpses of human beings who subsist on human or animal blood. In folklore, the term usually refers to the blood-drinking humans of Eastern European legends, but it is often extended to cover similar legendary creatures from other regions and cultures

Voodoo
  a name attributed to a traditionally unwritten West African spiritual system of faith and ritual practices. Like all faith systems, the core functions of Voodoo are to explain the forces of the universe, influence those forces, and influence human behavior

  tube like anomilies that show up in still pictures at some hauntings

Wicca
  a Neopagan religion and a religious movement found in various countries throughout the world. It was first popularised in 1954 by a British civil servant named Gerald Gardner[1] after the British Witchcraft Act was repealed. He claimed that the religion, of which he was an initiate, was a modern survival of an old witchcraft religion, which had existed in secret for hundreds of years, originating in the pre-Christian Paganism of Europe. Wicca is thus sometimes referred to as the Old Religion

Witch
  in various historical, anthropological, religious and mythological contexts, is the use of certain kinds of alleged supernatural or magical powers. A witch is a practitioner of witchcraft, and may be male or female. While mythological witches are often supernatural creatures, historically many people were also accused of witchcraft, or claimed to be witches. Witchcraft still exists in a number of belief systems, with many modern practitioners. The term "witchcraft" can have positive or negative connotations depending on cultural context; for instance, in post-Christian European cultures it has historically been associated with evil and the Devil, while most modern witches see it as beneficent and morally positive

Yeti
  an alleged ape-like animal said to inhabit the Himalaya region of Nepal and Tibet. The names Yeti and Meh-Teh are commonly used by the people indigenous to the region, and are part of their history and mythology. Most mainstream scientists, explorers and writers with experience of the area, consider current evidence of the Yeti's existence to be weak and better explained as hoax, legend, or misidentification of known species. Nevertheless, the Yeti remains one of the most famous creatures of cryptozoology

Z


Zombie
  purportedly a dead person whose body has been re-animated. Stories of zombies originated in the Afro-Caribbean spiritual belief system of Vodoun (Voodoo), where zombies are humans who have had their "Ti Bon Ange" (Creole from the French "petit bon ange", or "little good angel") or soul stolen by supernatural means or shamanic medicine, and who thus lack free will and are forced to work as uncomplaining slaves for a "zombie master", typically on plantations. It is widely thought that, if such "zombies" existed, they were in fact heavily drugged but still-living humans
